KK'S PRIEST RE-RECORD JUDAS PRIEST CLASSIC "NEVER SATISFIED" WITH RIPPER OWENS, NEW MUSIC VIDEO PREMIERED

New version of the early Judas Priest song arrives with an accompanying music video; KK's Priest currently on North American tour with W.A.S.P.

KK's Priest have revisited a classic from the Judas Priest catalog, re-recording "Never Satisfied" with vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens. The new version of the song, originally featured on Judas Priest's 1974 debut album Rocka Rolla, arrives with an accompanying music video directed by John Psaras

"That video could not have been made without today's modern technology — bringing myself to life in such an accurate way is quite beyond belief," said Downing. "It's basically bringing to life something that's absolutely impossible to create or film today without it."

The video takes viewers through Downing's own story — his words describe it as "a chronological description of my life, my journey, good, bad and ugly" — set against the backdrop of Birmingham's emergence as, in Downing's words, "certainly the capital of heavy metal as we know it," alongside contemporaries Black Sabbath and Judas Priest itself.

Producer and director John Psaras of JPSR Studio worked closely with Downing to bring the concept to life.

"The video traces KK's own journey — his story, told visually, across decades," said Psaras. "We used modern production technology to build a world that simply doesn't exist to film anymore. It's not a performance recording; it's a visual telling of his life."

For KK Downing, the decision to revisit "Never Satisfied" represents an opportunity to look back across his remarkable career while giving the song a new life through the current KK's Priest lineup.

"Yeah, it seemed like a good idea to, at this point in my career, in my life, span so many decades, just to turn the page back and look at how things might possibly present themselves many decades later," Downing explains. "So, songs like 'Never Satisfied' and other recordings that I enjoy connecting with again after so long."

Downing also points to the recent acquisition of the rights to Rocka Rolla and Sad Wings of Destiny by Reach Music as another factor behind the project. The albums are being remastered and reissued, with Rocka Rolla already released and Sad Wings of Destiny scheduled for release in November.

"And obviously with a view to not just reinvigorating those songs by having KK's Priest's current lineup record those songs," Downing says, "it's also, I'm glad to say, that Reach Music have now acquired the rights to those two albums, which has actually freed the whole thing up, and has brought about a willingness and a want to be able to bring the albums to the surface again."

The new "Never Satisfied" also offers an intriguing comparison between two of heavy metal's most distinctive vocalists. While Rob Halford performed the original version, Owens brings his own interpretation to the song decades later. Downing believes both singers are capable of putting their own stamp on the material.

"Two great singers and performers," he says. "I mean, you know, it's going to be tough. I guess the main thing is that Rob would be associated with the archive legacy, the original going back when. But obviously, Ripper is sort of capable of doing the same thing, but with a slightly different delivery and tonality of the voice."

Downing adds, "But other than that, I mean, both the vocalists can completely nail down any song, and it would be often tough to choose what the preference would be."

The release of "Never Satisfied" comes as KK's Priest are currently on the road in North America with W.A.S.P. The tour pairs two veteran acts with deep roots in the 1980s metal scene, and Downing says the shows have delivered exactly the kind of high-energy experience fans might expect.

"I've done 21 shows. Got another 21 to do. So we're exactly at the halfway point," Downing says. "I mean, W.A.S.P., legendary early '80s band, and obviously we go back."  He describes the tour as "an explosion of energy" from start to finish, adding that audiences can expect KK's Priest to deliver a set packed with classic songs spanning decades of Downing's career.

"So that's what they're going to get," he says. "But they're going to get a hell of a lot of classic songs that they've known that go back decades. And so it will hopefully drive  fans to come along and sing along, which they are doing, and seemingly enjoying what we do tremendously."

With "Never Satisfied," KK's Priest are therefore bringing together multiple eras of Downing's musical history: an early Judas Priest composition, a new interpretation featuring Owens, and a current lineup continuing to perform classic metal on stages across North America.
