Upon A Burning Body’s Ruben Talks Blood of the Bull and New Drummer

2 min read

Upon A Burning Body is back with their first full-length release in over three years, and guitarist Ruben gave This Day in Metal an exclusive look at what fans can expect from Blood of the Bull. From the freedom of recording independently to the creative energy in the studio, Ruben dives into what makes this album a statement for 2025 and the exciting lineup updates fans have been waiting for.

"It’s our first release, well, first album in about three and a half years, so it’s been a long time coming," Ruben shared. "We’ve been dropping singles, but we’re excited to finally get it out there."

Recording independently has given the band freedom they hadn’t experienced before. Ruben described moments in the studio that pushed them creatively, sometimes sparking clashes that ultimately made the songs stronger. This combination of independence, hard work, and Texan grit helped shape an album that feels both raw and polished, a true statement piece for 2025.

Tito Leaving and the New Drummer

With longtime drummer Tito leaving, fans were curious who would step in. Ruben shared the full story:

"Yes we do, actually our original drummer is going to be joining us — he was in our band back in the local days when we first started the band. He’s still been playing here in San Antonio, and he’s an amazing drummer. When Tito decided to leave, he actually filled in for us and crushed it, so we were like, ‘You want to be back in the band?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, actually I’ve been waiting to try to join again, so he’s ready to go.’"

This marks the return of their original drummer, bringing both history and fresh energy to Blood of the Bull and the band’s upcoming live shows.

Texas Roots and Pride

Ruben was also candid about the role San Antonio and their heritage play in the band’s identity:

"The vibe has always been to have a lot of pride in the work we do, and we’ve all come from nothing, like literally the slums of San Antonio, to now playing all around the world."

That journey from humble beginnings to international stages isn’t just a story of success; it’s a core part of the sound and attitude that permeates Blood of the Bull. Fans can expect the album to carry that authenticity and pride, alongside the heavy riffs and groove-metal energy UABB is known for.

What Fans Should Expect

Ruben emphasized that this album is for both longtime fans and newcomers alike. With each track carefully crafted, there’s something to discover for everyone, whether it’s a subtle lyric, a hidden riff, or the raw emotion driving each performance.

With Blood of the Bull dropping December 5, fans have plenty to look forward to: new music, a refreshed lineup, and the continuation of UABB’s journey from the streets of San Antonio to stages around the world. Ruben’s enthusiasm is infectious, and it’s clear that the band’s pride, grit, and relentless drive are stronger than ever.
