Up the Irons! Iron Maiden Finally Storm the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Heavy metal legends Iron Maiden have officially been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, cementing their legacy as one of the most influential and enduring bands in the history of rock and metal.

In a statement following Monday night’s announcement on American Idol, longtime Iron Maiden manager Rod Smallwood said, “We’d like to thank the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for including us (and former members who were all part of our story) in the 2026 roll call of inductees. Iron Maiden have always been about our relationship with our fans above anything else, including awards and industry accolades. However, having said that, it’s always nice to be recognised and honoured for any achievements within the music industry too!”

Smallwood added that, “It also seems appropriate for the band to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year as we continue our 50th anniversary celebrations with our Run For Your Lives World Tour visiting the Americas and beyond. We would also like to congratulate our fellow 2026 inductees and extend our gratitude as ever to our fans for their loyalty, perseverance and support for over 50 years now!  See you all, somewhere on tour.”

This milestone follows the band receiving their third nomination for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2026, after previously being nominated in 2021 and 2023—making this long-awaited induction especially meaningful for fans around the world.

Notably, the relationship between Iron Maiden and the Rock Hall has not always been without tension. Among the critics of the institution is Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson, who in a 2018 Q&A famously called it a “complete load of bollocks,” adding that it was “run by a bunch of sanctimonious bloody Americans who wouldn’t know rock’n’roll if it hit them in the face,” and suggesting they “need to stop taking Prozac and start drinking… beer.”

At the same time, the band has had strong advocates pushing for their recognition. Tom Morello notably campaigned for Iron Maiden’s induction in 2024, stating, “I will chew my leg off like a coyote in a trap if I can’t get Iron Maiden in. While there are many other deserving acts, Iron Maiden for me is the last most egregious oversight in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.”

Formed in 1975, Iron Maiden helped define the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and went on to become global icons with groundbreaking albums, electrifying live performances, and a fiercely loyal fanbase spanning generations. With over 100 million albums sold worldwide, the band’s impact on music culture is undeniable.

Known for classic releases such as The Number of the Beast, Powerslave, and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Iron Maiden pushed the boundaries of heavy music with intricate compositions, powerful storytelling, and unmatched stage production featuring their iconic mascot Eddie.

The induction ceremony will take place at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s annual event, bringing together artists, fans, and industry leaders to celebrate the band’s historic achievement.

The 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 14th at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.

The 2026 ceremony will debut in December on ABC and Disney+.

Iron Maiden’s inclusion marks a major milestone for heavy metal within the Hall of Fame, further validating the genre’s cultural significance and global reach.

For fans around the world, this moment is more than an honor—it’s a victory for metal.
