Mark Zonder is one of hard rock's most accomplished drummers, having spent two decades with the great Fates Warning and underground legends Warlord. In 2022, he partnered with Fates vocalist Ray Alder to form the aptly named A-Z and release the band's self-titled debut on Metal Blade Records. Zonder famously described the A-Z listening experience as follows "Here's the chorus. Big chorus. Think beer commercial, car commercial, 'Cobra Kai'."

On June 6, 2025, A-Z will release its sophomore album A2Z^2 (yes, up to the 2nd power) on Metal Blade. Zonder joined This Day In Metal to discuss a plethora of topics including the forthcoming A-Z record and touring plans, Warlord, collaborating with Alder and guitar maestro Nick Van Dyk, the band's mainstay Philip Bynoe as well as newcomers Jimmy Waldo and Simone Mularoni, and Zonder's lengthy relationship with Metal Blade.
