Concert Review: Melrose Avenue

Australian based metalcore band Melrose Avenue brought their high energy to Toronto’s Mod Club April 29th to a nearly sold out crowd. It was a night of both sight and sound as their stage show was packed with the sex appeal you would expect on the heels of their new singles “Taste“and “Bad Guy”.

As one of the fastest rising metalcore bands formed around 2021/22 they are midway through their current world tour. Despite many of its members being under the weather - as disclosed during the pre-event, it certainly didn’t show as singer Vlado Saric belted out hit after hit seamlessly, supported by Shawn Mayer’s (guitar/vocals) distinctive growl. Along with the remarkable Mitchell Black (lead guitar) and Jed McIntosh (drums) they played fan favourites such as “Fool and the Beggar”, “Inside your mind”, “Falling Apart”, “Enemy”, “Through Hell”, “Reflections” and more. Included in the set was a well performed Bring Me the Horizon’s “Drown” rendition.

Fans were treated to an encore of the band’s biggest breakthrough “Suffering”.

During the VIP pre-show, the band showed how much they appreciate their fans by making accommodations to continue as planned despite illness. When I asked them “If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?” The responses ranged from Bring Me the Horizon (Vlado) and Avenged Sevenfold and old Maroon 5 (Mitchell) to Shawn’s Nickelback. Jed just gave a coy smile and a shrug…. Wonder what was going through his head?
Known for their strong engagement with TikTok and Instagram reels, they are lighting up the internet and I for one can’t wait to see what’s next!
