Alissa White-Gluz Returns Heavier Than Ever with Explosive New Band Blue Medusa
Vocalist and songwriter Alissa White-Gluz is entering an exciting new chapter with her latest project, Blue Medusa. In an exclusive interview, she opened up about the inspiration behind the band, the creative process, and what fans can expect from the music moving forward.
Recently, Alissa had the opportunity to chat with Metalhead Marv to discuss the new songs, upcoming plans, and so much more. Check out the interview below.
Blue Medusa’s debut singles, “Checkmate” and “Flying Monkey,” have already begun turning heads thanks to their blend of heavy riffs, dark atmosphere, melodic hooks, and layered songwriting. According to Alissa, the goal was simple from the beginning: create music that feels powerful immediately while still rewarding listeners with new details on every spin.
“I like music that grabs me right away,” she explained. “But then every time you listen to it, you hear something new.”
That philosophy plays a major role in Blue Medusa’s songwriting approach. Alissa compared the experience to studying art history, where classic paintings reveal hidden symbolism and intricate details the longer you examine them. She says the band intentionally builds “Easter eggs” into the lyrics, visuals, and arrangements for fans to uncover over time.
The name Blue Medusa also carries personal meaning. While discussing the challenge of naming a band in today’s crowded music landscape, Alissa revealed that the name stood out because it matched both the sound and emotional identity of the project. She was also drawn to the mythology and symbolism surrounding Medusa herself.
Musically, Blue Medusa combines heaviness, melody, atmosphere, and accessibility. Alissa described the sound as “heavy enough for your metalhead friends, catchy enough for your non-metalhead friends, interesting enough for your artsy friends, and brutal enough to work out to.”

While the songs may sound polished and deliberate, much of the creative process is driven by instinct and emotion. Alissa explained that arrangements often come together naturally based on tension, energy, and feeling rather than strict formulas. Lyrically, much of the material comes from personal reflection and intrusive thoughts, giving the music a darker emotional edge.
The band is also embracing a modern release strategy by rolling out singles ahead of a full-length album. Alissa says she prefers giving each song its own spotlight rather than releasing everything at once.
“As a listener, I like being able to focus on one song for a while,” she said. “It gives every song its moment.”
Fans won’t have to wait long for more music either, as she confirmed that work on the upcoming album is already well underway.
Beyond Blue Medusa, the conversation also touched on Alissa’s love for musical theater and Broadway-style vocals. One of her personal goals? Playing Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar someday.
For now, however, the focus remains firmly on building Blue Medusa into something unique and lasting — a project that blends intensity, artistry, melody, and emotion into one evolving vision.
Fans can keep up with Blue Medusa through the band’s official website and social media channels, where updates on new music, videos, merchandise, and future tour announcements will be posted.
